AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES

禁漫天堂 Cooperative Extension’s primary focus is to provide information and technical expertise to homeowners and agricultural producers. Through office and farm visits, Habersham County Extension provides comprehensive soil, water, feed and forage analyses, as well as insect and disease diagnoses. The information gathered is used to make unbiased, research-based recommendations to save producers and homeowners time and money.?

Extension continued its work in the areas of watershed assessment and restoration. Local farms implemented best management practices including exclusion fencing, heavy-use watering areas and heavy-use feeding areas totaling $285,000 in impact in 2019-2021, $564,000 in 2022-2024, and an additional $210,000 in 2025.? ?In spring 2025, we hosted a Master Gardener Certification Course to enhance our volunteer group, Headwaters Master Gardeners. Each year the group contributes volunteer programming and service hours in our local community including a plant sale that leveraged over $30,000 for community programs.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES

Susie Burton Medina, Family & Consumer Science Agent in Habersham County, has had much success working with Susie through the teaching kitchen and food hub, where she has implemented food safety, food preservation, and diabetes courses for our community.? She began the? Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in 2023.? This program continues to expand each spring, providing assistance to residents with their taxes and often later develops into personal finance and budget counseling.??

4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The true strength of the Habersham County 4-H program is its diversity of programming. In 2024 our Forestry Judging Senior Team placed 1st at the District Contest and 2nd at the State Contest. Autumn Samsel (Forest & Wood Science) and Marley McConnell (Beef Showmanship Champion) achieved Master 4-H status.? Our Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging Senior and Junior Team placed 2nd at District Contest.? We rebooted our Wildlife Judging, Horse Judging, and Livestock Judging. Our Project S.A.F.E. teams are continuing to grow. The BB team has made it to the state contest the last 3 years. Emmalee Turgeon served on the 2024-2025 NE District Junior Board of Directors. In Cloverleaf Project Achievement 100% of Habersham County competitors placed 3rd or higher in their respective categories.
