Making A Difference in Our County

University of Georgia Cooperative Extension is working hard for its constituents.?The following are examples of Barrow County Extension’s impact in the county over the past year (2024).

AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES

Agriculture is an economic driver in Barrow, creating millions in?value from just 20% of the county’s acreage. We served the?agricultural community through 150 on-site farmer and homeowner?consultations with 503 diagnostic samples, 685 teaching hours in?schools and for the public, and 730 Master Gardener volunteer hours?focused on horticultural outreach.?

BARROW COUNTY 4-H

Barrow 4-H offered educational?programs in STEM, robotics, healthy living, leadership, and?communication. We reached 1,243 youth through 54 in-school?meetings and 1,324 members in 115 after-school programs. The?Barrow Robotics program, a partnership with Barrow County Schools,?engaged 85 youth. Barrow 4-H also had 247 participants in our public?speaking contests, enhancing skills in our focused program areas.
